BEWARE OF COUNTERFEIT AND KNOCK-OFF LOCK-JAW BARBELL COLLAR PRODUCT AND SELLERS

Lock-Jaw Barbell Collars are protected under United States and Chinese Patents and Worldwide Trademarks.  We are aware that there are fake, counterfeit, or imitation collars in circulation to exploit the worldwide success of the Lock-Jaw Barbell Collar brand and product.

Many of these counterfeit and knock-off sellers are listing product at retail locations, Amazon, Ebay, and other third party online sellers at reduced prices and diminished quality.

Unless you are buying from a seller listed as an Authorized Lock-Jaw Collar Dealer, from Lock-Jaw Barbell Collars Amazon storefront, or directly from this site, you likely will be buying an inferior counterfeit product.

While the knockoffs may appear to have the same qualities of the  genuine Lock-Jaw Barbell Collar, they do not.  Characteristics of knockoffs include, but are not limited to:

INFERIOR MATERIALS.  Fake collars are made with poor quality recycled materials which stretch and become useless quickly.  Pads on knock-offs are typically cheap injection molded vinyl vs. the virgin rubber of the genuine product.

COMPROMISED DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION.  Product tolerances and engineering of the counterfeit collars are inferior to genuine Lock-Jaw Barbell Collar.  This means the collars wear out, fail quickly, have weak clamping force, and are UNSAFE.

NO TESTING.  Counterfeit collars are not tested.  Conversely, all Lock-Jaw Barbell Collars undergo a lengthy and thorough battery of tests which ensure the genuine product is of the highest quality and performance.

NO WARRANTY.  Warranties will not be honored for counterfeit product or purchases originating from an unauthorized dealer.

Avus Design LP, parent company of Lock-Jaw Barbell Collars, proactively defends its patents and trademarks.  Manufacturers, dealers and sellers who are found to sell knockoffs are subject to legal action.  Warranties will not be honored for purchases originating from an unauthorized dealer.  If you suspect a company or competitor is selling or distributing fake collars at retail or online, please let us know and we will take appropriate and immediate action under strict confidentiality. Please contact: info@lockjawcollar.com or 805-364-2944

Bench Tips from LeRoy Walker - Wave Loading

LeRoy's Bench Tip: Wave Loading Volume

Fresh off a USPA win at CrossFit Granada Hills with a 570 raw bench press, LeRoy "The Machine" Walker shares some tips on his preferred version of wave loading training.

A great way to increase your bench is to change up the complexity of your bench training.  One system to implement is the wave volume method - one which calls for many set and reps at moderately and heavy weight.  This method has been around for a while because it works: over time the muscles respond to the high workload by getting stronger as the workout goes on. Therefore you are able to hit higher goals as you don't get as tired during the bench sessions.

Here's an example of how LeRoy would dial in a workout based on a rep max of 225.

Three wave with each wave having a sequence of reps.  When the sets and reps are completed, you move down the chaser to the next wave. The starting weight in each wave is increased in weight anywhere from 5 to 20 lbs.

Wave 1. 5,3,3,2,2,

So that is 5@135 3@145 3@155 2@165 2@174

Wave 2. 5,3,3,2,2,2.

5@145 3@155 3@165 2@175 2@185

Wave 3. 5,3,2,1

5@155 3@165 2@175 1@185 or higher.

Got any specific questions for LeRoy?  Follow on Instagram, post some questions and he'll likely hook you up with some advice.

Or ask The Machine in person: If you're in the Seattle area, come check him out at Dungeon Fitness in Bremerton, WA for the Bench Press Seminar & Max Bench Competition - August 27th and 28th.  Two days of training, coaching, seminars, bench competition, BBQ and Lock-Jaw Collar giveaways.

Lock-Jaw Labs - Barbell Collar Testing

Barbell collars play a critical role in safe weightlifting, reducing the chance for injury while increasing the life of your plates and bars. It is important to know the collars you choose will keep your plates secure during your workouts.  Lock-Jaw Barbell Collar is committed to offering the highest quality barbell collars available.  Safety, quality, and performance are of utmost concern when developing and testing all genuine Lock-Jaw Barbell Collars.

Lock-Jaw Labs cyclic open / close test

In the Lock-Jaw Labs we have developed five primary testing procedures for genuine Lock-Jaw Barbell collars to ensure they meet our stringent criteria:

Cyclic Drop:  Barbells undergo many thousands of drops from overhead each year.  We simulate how the barbell collar responds to to multiple impacts, and ensures the collar doesn’t pop open during use.  Collar is secured to a 50mm bar with varying amounts of bumper plate weights and is dropped repeatedly from a height of 9 feet.

Lock-Jaw Labs cyclic drop test

Cyclic Open / Close: It takes a long time to use your collars 10,000+ times, but we are able to do this in a few hours. Testing cycles of opening and closing clamp force ensures barbell clamp do not stretch or become compromised after high volumes of use.

Lock-Jaw Labs cyclic open / close test

Clamp Force:  Just like it sounds, this test measures the actual clamping force of collars with a custom compression load cell and digital readout testing device.

Gantry Drop:  This one is the most fun. Barbell collars are attached to an Olympic bar with A LOT of bumper plates and dropped from a 8’ up.  To make the test even more destructive, we angle the bar at 20-degrees to produce sheer loading of the collars. This reflects the most real world environment for testing as bar and plates are dropped at various angles and heights.

Static Slip:  The coefficient of friction is measured by forcing the collar to slip on a 50mm bar. This is more scientific and capable of loads over 1000lb, which can’t be done in the gym!

There are a large number of barbell collars of varying quality and price available on the market.  You can be assured all Lock-Jaw Barbell Collars are developed and tested to perform at the highest level.  Don’t compromise your safety and performance by settling on subpar equipment.  Instead trust genuine Lock-Jaw Barbell Collars.

We get a number of inquiries from our fans asking which photography studio takes all the shots of our barbell collars in action on our website.  You can add "photography studio" to the long list of expertise of Smarter Team Training (STT) in Timonium, Maryland.

We were initially approached by STT founder and owner Robert Taylor, Jr. with a generous proposal to feature Lock-Jaw Barbell Collars in their world-class facility.  We of course obliged and soon learned of of the broad range of outstanding services STT provides.

Founded primarily as professional development center, STT trains individuals and teams using seven phases: Speed, Movement, Agility, Reaction, Technology, Education, and Resistance.

Smarter Team Training also holds strength and conditioning conferences, affording larger organizations, educators, trainers, and industry professionals the opportunity to have hands-on education and instruction.  (This July Coach Taylor and his team will celebrate their 10th Annual Strength and Conditioning Conference.)

Coach Taylor's resume speaks for itself, and we encourage any athlete or coach interested in tapping into Smarter Team Training's knowledge to follow on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or STT's award-winning podcast on iTunes.

Big Man Bigger Heart - LeRoy "The Machine" Walker

We got an enthusiastic email and phone call one day from LeRoy “The Machine” Walker telling us how much he liked using Lock-Jaw Barbell Collars and if we’d like to help out with an upcoming event. It didn’t take much research on our part to embrace all things LeRoy: His passion for the sport, humble nature, enthusiasm for giving back to his community, and impressive accomplishments.   Fast forward to today and we’re honored and proud to introduce LeRoy as our first official Lock-Jaw Barbell Collar athlete.

WHO IS THE MACHINE?

LeRoy Anthony Walker was born and raised in Washington state and was a three-sport athlete in football, wrestling, and baseball. LeRoy started hammering the bench at age 13 in his garage gym. By his late teens LeRoy entered his first bench competition and lifted a raw 489, topping 500 later that year. Hooked ever since, LeRoy holds a number of American lifting records and has been undefeated for four years straight in bench competition. A couple highlights: 675lb bench at USPA Relentless Detroit, and a 655lb bench record at Muscle Beach Venice (breaking legendary CT Fletcher's record of 650).

Numerous accomplishments aside, what impresses us most is LeRoy’s passion for giving back to the lifting community and, most importantly, to those less fortunate around him. LeRoy and his beautiful wife Betty Rage, a competitive powerlifter and bodybuilder as well, can be found donating basic necessities to those in need around the Inland Empire. LeRoy and Betty Rage conduct many of their powerlifting events to include charitable causes.

LeRoy is currently training to become the 5th person in history to go over 700lb raw in the bench.  Want to track his progress and words of wisdom?  A few places to stalk:
